- As of 2007, partners with the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods to work with the McLean Foundation, the Humboldt Area Foundation and several other funders to expand a ‘Back to School Clothes Program.’ Once a year, 150 under-privileged children are given the opportunity to purchase up to $100 of new school clothes at Mervyns. Mervyn’s not only provides funding, but also gives the children generous discounts.
- Acts as the umbrella organization for the Humboldt Community Switchboard, a telephone warm line that provides information and referral services to people of Humboldt County. With over 1,000 services listed online and with the help of volunteers, the Switchboard connects needed services and our counties residents. The goal is to turn the Switchboard line into a 2-1-1 line. Over 50% of California’s counties are connected with 2-1-1.
- Manages the Women and Children’s Fund. Originally funded by the sale of the YWCA building, the W&CF currently finances mini-grants to underserved households.
- Facilitates 8-10 organizations for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program in conjunction with FEMA. These organizations are in the front line to respond to people in need during emergencies.
- Works with the Humboldt Association of Realtors to finance the ‘Toys for Kids’ program that donates toys to disadvantaged children around the holidays.
- Facilitates the Humboldt Community NETwork meetings to bring 40-60 service providers together each month to share information on what is available in the county.
- Maintains the ongoing standby support of Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters/Citizen Corps Council Humboldt VOAD/CCCH. Periodic meetings of VOAD/CCCH are lead by United Way of Humboldt County with community-based organizations, law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services and elected officials insure a constant readiness in peacetime.
- VOAD participants are non profits with a variety of assets who can
provide food, shelter, volunteers and funding through a network of existing services in our community. VOAD is officially recognized in the Humboldt County Emergency Operations Plan.

Organizes the annual Day of Caring, which encourages community and youth volunteers to participate in hands on service projects.

Is affiliated with many organizations which work to promote economic and community development.

Provides free photo copying and fax services for local non-profit organizations in partnership with Humboldt Area Foundation. Please call for an appointment.
