Member Agencies

The following organizations have been reviewed by a volunteer committee and have received membership status with United Way of Humboldt County. Membership requires strict adherence to the highest standards of operation for not for profit organizations. New membership may be available upon an increase in campaign revenue or if one of the current members leaves. There are currently no memberships available.

American Red Cross 707-443-4521
Provides emergency shelter, food and clothing to victims of personal and natural disasters.  Offers water safety programs, first aid classes and services to military families.
 
Arcata Endeavor 707-822-5008
Oversees the Arcata Service Center, a day shelter serving individuals in crisis, providing meals, food boxes, showers, laundry, mail drop, case management and employment services.
 
Boy Scouts, Redwood Empire Council 707-443-8345
Works to instill community-centered values in young people, to prepare them to achieve their full potential and to make ethical choices throughout their lives.
 
Boys and Girls Club of Humboldt County 707-441-1030
Holds daily clubhouse-centered programs for youth to provide informal counseling and programs which offer opportunities for social and educational growth and development.

Food for People 707-445-3166
Emergency food assistance, including USDA commodities, for low-income individuals and families, through a countywide network of pantries.  Special program for children, seniors and the homebound.
 
Girl Scouts, Sierra Cascade Council 707-443-6641
Provides program opportunities for girls, age 5 through 17, to reach their potential, develop leadership skills and build friendships in partnership with trained adult volunteers.
 
Healy Senior Center 707-923-2399
The focal point for all senior citizens' activities in Southern Humboldt.  Congregate meals, Meals on Wheels, recreational activities, exercise, transportation, information and referral and care management.
 
Humboldt Community Access and Resource Center 707-443-7077
HCAR serves local citizens with developmental and other disabilities, by promoting personal independence, community inclusion and family unity through a wide variety of programs.
 
Humboldt Literacy Project 707-445-3655
The mission of the Humboldt Literacy Project is to improve the literacy skills of the estimated 18,000 to 22,000 functionally illiterate Humboldt county adults.
 
Humboldt Domestic Violence Services 707-444-9255
Offers comprehensive emergency services and ongoing support programs to women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
 
North Coast Big Brothers / Big Sisters 707-445-4871
Matches "at risk" children, youth, and teen mothers with screened and trained adult volunteers who serve as role models, friends, and mentors under agency supervision.
 
North Coast Substance Abuse Council (Crossroads) 707-445-0180
Crossroads is a one-year residential therapeutic community serving adults with drug and alcohol problems that addresses all areas of addiction. Aftercare is also provided.
 
United Way of Humboldt County 707-443-8637
Administers Federal food and shelter funds for the low-income and homeless locally.  Coordinates voluntary organizations during disasters by providing referral services for victims and volunteers.
 
Youth Education Services 707-826-4965
Administers volunteer programs that provide services to people whose needs aren't being met by other organizations.  Provides learning opportunities for young adult volunteers.
